Located at 2514 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley, CA 94702, Lao Garden Restaurant & Bar operates as a thai restaurant serving Berkeley in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as laotian restaurant, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In Berkeley, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across California run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. The most common schedule is 11:30 am–3 pm. Note that it does not open on Tuesday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (510) 705-1958. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is laogarden.net, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.8 out of 5 from 114 reviews, which is a strong result for a thai restaurant in Berkeley and suggests consistent service.

What a treat! From the friendly greeting upon entering, to the last sip of your Pandan Lao tea, Lao Garden provides an indelible experience. The folks here bring such care to taste and presentation, the kind that vies against any fine dining eatery. The tilapia was cooked perfectly and was accompanied by more fresh ingredients than you'd get anywhere else to make lettuce wraps. I use every ingredient to make different flavor combinations. The garlic shrimp packed so much flavor. The broth is worth every delicious drop. I was so excited, I forgot to take a photo of the stuffed tapioca balls. They provide texture and it's own flavor experience. I love Pandan, and this pseudo milk tea was not too sweet and had a great Pandan flavor. Can't wait to go back and try more.

Wanted to like this place! Reviews looked promising… A half bowl of rice is $8 and most items on the lunch menu is Γ  la carte therefore needs rice… to me this feels dishonest and quite a scam… Another dish I would never order again is the Thum Lao Lao funky papaya salad. The fermented sauce funky and not in a good way… almost tastes spoiled. What I would order again is the Khao Piak - it’s a handmade rice noodle in chicken broth. Very chewy and good flavor, the broth is also thick. Wanted to try the beef jerky but the server end up not hearing us when we ordered… oh well. They are not busy during lunch on a weekend.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Lao Garden and were truly impressed by the authenticity and quality of the food. For my husband, who is of Lao heritage, the flavors were especially meaningful and brought back a deep connection to his cultural roots. The care and tradition behind each dish were evident, making the meal both memorable and genuine. The owner’s warmth and hospitality made the experience even more special. Her personal touch and passion elevated our visit beyond just a great meal. We left feeling not only satisfied, but genuinely enriched, and we highly recommend Lao Garden to anyone seeking an authentic taste of Laos. We’re already looking forward to returning on our next trip to the Bay Area. Food pictured: Lao sausage, sticky rice, chicken wings, Thum Lao Lao (extra Lao spicy), chili lime shrimp, khao piak sen, mango sticky rice, Lao tea

The service was excellent. Even though it was very busy during lunchtime, the staff was incredibly attentive and helpful. Our server, Smile, truly lived up to her name β€” she was friendly, patient, and kept a warm smile the entire time while giving great recommendations. All of the food was delicious. My favorite dish was Tum Lao Lao β€” it was absolutely amazing, especially when eaten with sticky rice. To finish the meal, we had Lod Chong in coconut milk, a fragrant and creamy pandan dessert that was perfectly sweet and very refreshing. Overall, a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommended!

One of the better Nam Khao (Crispy Rice Salad) I've had that's crispy and fragrant with generous amount of Lao sausage while not being greasy. The papaya salad was also a great balance of flavors and wasn't too salty or fishy with a nice spicy kick.
